Japan has announced plans to ban flights from the US and Europe to and from the country by April 30.
The US and its allies have been in talks over whether the ban should extend to Japanese nationals already living in the US.US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the US would seek to maintain an open, free and fair trading relationship with Japan, but Japan has said the move would hurt its economic growth and competitiveness.
A US official told CNN on Thursday that the US was considering lifting travel restrictions for Japanese nationals.
Japan’s Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said on Thursday he hoped the US could reach an agreement soon on how to resume normal trade relations.
Kishida, who was attending the US-Japan Strategic and Economic Dialogue, said Japan would welcome the US’ willingness to take up the issue of the travel ban.
