Travel agencies are using Craigslist ads to target travelers who are using the service to book hotel rooms, cars and other travel items, according to a blog post from Capital One Travel Advisory.
The company advises consumers to “stay away from places where the ads are posted.”
The blog post says that travel agents often use Craigslist ads “to get the exact information that they want, which can result in you not being able to book your travel at all.”
“They can target you based on location, age, gender, or other personal information.”
It’s important to note that Craigslist ads are only targeting people who have an account.
It should be noted that this is not a blanket warning.
Travel agents are not allowed to target people based on age, sex, or religion.
